Welcome new curlers!
Thank you for registering for the Chicago Curling Club's Learn2Curl program on Saturday, December 21st, 2013.
Following please find some advance information on the day's activities.
NEW - for this Olympic year- the CCC will offer a "skip the line" Learn2Curl option for those who want to participate as full CCC members during a scheduled Learn2Curl. Simply add the "Join the Club" selection on the upcoming payment screen just below the $75 Learn2Curl fee. Participants choosing this option will pay for a full (or remaining) season's membership and enjoy their Learn2Curl on a sheet with advanced instructors, a premium bar selection to enjoy with refreshments after the session, front-of-the-line privileges for “2nd Shot” training sessions and right-of-first refusal on open front-end league positions.
Please note: our session starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. CST.
Please plan on arriving by 9:30 a.m., to allow you time to complete remaining registration paperwork and change your shoes at the club before the session starts. We require each curler to sign a Liability Release form. You must complete this form prior to curling.
If you do need to cancel, PLEASE give reasonable advance notice and call the club or e-mail us at the above address. All of our Learn2Curl sessions become fully booked and we typically have a waiting list of eager curlers. If you cannot make it, please allow another curler to enjoy the afternoon. Note that Learn2Curl registration fees are non-refundable.
We will spend about 20 minutes discussing curling, including a short video, and doing some stretching. Lessons on the ice will take 45-60 minutes, followed by a two-end simulated game for 45-50 minutes. Finally, we will share some refreshments and answer your questions about curling and the Chicago Curling Club. Total estimated spent at the club for a Learn2Curl session is about 2 1/2 hours.
Bring warm clothing with you (including gloves and a hat, if you wish), as we will spend a good part of the afternoon on the ice with lessons and the simulated game. Some people find that layers help, in case you need to add or subtract. Note that the Curling Ice House is not heated...with temperatures generally about 35-40 degrees.
You must bring a separate pair of clean flat-soled shoes to wear on the ice.
These CANNOT be your street shoes for that day. Clean running shoes or sneakers will work just fine. No leather soles or heels.
Sorry but no exceptions! Don't forget your shoes or you cannot curl!
We will supply all of the remaining necessary curling gear, including brooms, sliders, and, of course, the stones and the ice!
