The NFL

Season(s) Day(s) of Week Days/Eves Rated/Unrated Membership
Fall Mondays Evenings Rated Regular, Annual

October: 25th

November: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th

December: 6th and 20th (Finals)

This popular event returns to Monday nights and MNF. With all the new curlers and other changes to the CCC this year we have introduced double draws. Since we don’t know the number of people planning on signing up for the NFL there is also the possibility of an OPEN event to take place. As such, the 8:15 draw times may only be NFL teams, may only be OPEN teams or some type of mix. How the sign ups go will determine things. That said there will at least be a 6PM NFL draw with potential for everyone to play some 8:15 games. Because of these issues there is a cutoff date for signing up for either the NFL or the Monday Open (as well as the other Fall events). This date is Friday October 8th at 11:59 PM. This will give Rinks and Events time to review all signups, assign teams and games. Rinks and Events will be running this event.

Back this year will also be the Pizza from Barnaby’s. Each curler will be charged an additional $10 per month of the NFL for the pizza. The first losing team off the ice at the 6 PM draw has to go get the pizza. Once the teams have been finalized we will take a poll of all curlers to determine the toppings.

This is a rated event and sign ups are down as individuals and should be done through the website (preferred method) or by email to the event chair (see below). All should have received an email with instructions for Website sign ups by August 29th (if not please contact Jay Radke). Rinks and Events will put together the teams based on ratings points for each curler with the goal to be as equally rated teams as the sign ups can allow. You can also sign up as a Sub.

Any questions can be directed to Jay Radke at jradke4@uic.edu (preferably) or 847-970-2619.

THE McBAIN-PENFIELD

Season(s) Day(s) of Week Days/Eves Rated/Unrated Membership
Fall Tues McBain
Thurs Penfield
Evenings Rated Regular, Annual

The McBain/Penfield Event – Tuesday or Thursday Night at 8:15

Tuesdays:

            Oct: 26th

            Nov: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th

            Dec: 7th

Thursdays:

            Oct: 21st, 28th

            Nov: 4th, 11th, 18th

            Dec: 2nd, 9th

MakeUps/Tie Breakers: Dec 13th and 14th

Club Champion Semi-finals: Dec 16th

Bonspiel Play in Games: Dec 16th

These events are named in honor of CCC charter member Hughston M. McBain and CCC founder Samuel Penfield. CCC members form rinks, with at least one team member maintaining a Vice-Skip rating or higher. At the end of the event, the top two teams from the McBain and the Penfield play down for the Club Championship. This game traditionally is played the night before the beginning of the CCC Men’s Invitational Bonspiel.

The outcome of the McBain-Penfield determines the six teams that qualify to participate in the CCC Men’s Invitational Bonspiel. The two teams with the best record from each league automatically qualify for the Men’s Bonspiel. The third and fourth place teams from each league play off to determine the final two entries. An exception to this occurs when a CCC team is the defending Bonspiel Champion (Which is the case this year). Then, if that team has not already qualified, it may enter the Bonspiel and only one third-place team is allowed entry to the Bonspiel. In this case, following any playoffs needed to break ties, the two third-place teams would play off for the remaining entry in the Bonspiel.

These two leagues are the most competitive at CCC. Curlers are free to pick their own teammates with the only restriction being that at least one player needs to be a Vice or higher. Individuals can sign up as well as two or more curlers that are looking to play together. In these cases, Rinks and Events helps assist in rounding out the teams. In the recent past nearly everyone that signs up has gotten in. However, we can not guaranty that singles will be on a team. Rinks and Events will do everything in its power to get everyone on a team as best as we can. Teams are also free to pick the night in which they curl however there are times that Rinks and Events may need to adjust those to balance out the total number of teams on each night. Preference for night will be determined by the signup of the team. First Come First Served. We will allow for more teams on one night than another but need to keep these close to similar numbers per night as Bonspiel slots are determined by this event. One can also sign up as a Sub.

The semi-finals of the Club Championship and the Bonspiel playoff games have been scheduled for Dec 2010. This is a hard date. We do not have the ice time in the next session to allow these games to be played at a later date. We will be starting the Presidents before the Christmas break due to the loss of numerous Thursdays in January and February. Rinks and Events will not allow these games to be rescheduled after this date unless there are extreme circumstances. Teams are allowed subs according to the rules and all teams have been informed of these dates prior to signing up for the event.

Please sign up through the Website (preferred) of by contacting the event chair Mike Bleser at Mike.Bleser@walgreens.com
